Nicoya Peninsula
We spent a lovely week on the Nicoya Peninsula, the far western coast of the country, relaxing by the beach and exploring a bit of the countryside. Fly into San Jose (usually with a stopover in Miami) and try to find a vacation rental to get a more local experience.
We stayed at Reserva Conchal, which was a collection of vacation rentals next to a resort that we were able to use. The town was called Brasilito and it was cool to drive around there. We stopped at this little restaurant on the side of the road across from a gas station that had amazing tamales, but I unfortunately have no idea what it was called!
Make sure to head down to a beach restaurant called Lola’s (named after their pet pig) for some great food and a beautiful beach!
Note: the road conditions in Costa Rica are not great. We rented a car and honestly returned it pretty beat up (I think we even lost a bumper somewhere along the way), but the rental car company didn’t seem to care and we never got a bill ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
