Tokyo
Must do’s
Daikanyama - Walk around the neighborhood and definitely go to the book store.
Ginza Bairin - Amazingly good Tonkatsu and worth the wait. Priced a bit high since it is famous, but it did not disappoint.
Tsukiji Market is the famous fish market of Tokyo. Its crowded, but get their early (around 9) and its not too bad. We bought a lot of bagged foods and spices to bring back with us, in addition to trying all kinds of foods.
Mori Art Museum The exhibit we saw on Japanese architecture was extremely well done. In addition, the observatory is a great view of the city.
Our favorite things in each neighborhood
Ginza
カフェ・ド・ペルル This wine & champagne bar is stunningly designed. It’s worth walking by on your way back from dinner even if you don’t stop for a drink
Siesta is an eclectic restaurant for a change of pace
Seamon Ginza Fantastic Omakase with a formal but relaxed and fun feel
The Ramen Mall at Tokyo Station
Shinjuku
Omoide Yokochō aka “piss ally” for yakitori
Yoyogi park
Shibuya (and near by)
Daikanyama - Walk around the neighborhood and definitely go to the book store.
Harajuku & Omotesando Hills
Take a cooking class! We met our small class at the Hachikō Statue next to the famous road crossing.
Shimo-Kitazawa
A hip neighborhood good for food, thrift shops, and drinks
Akihabara
The “tech” neighborhood with the maid cafe’s. Explore the stores and the arcades and watch some teens play DDR
