The best part of Nara is just walking around. We definitely suggest going as early as possible because the tour busses come in quick! Make sure you take the express train from Kyoto rather than the local.

We had lunch at Shizuka after waiting in line for an hour. It was good, but we weren’t convinced it was worth the wait. Either plan ahead and get there 30 minutes before noon, or find somewhere less popular.
