Normandy
Bayeux
We stayed at Hotel Domaine De Bayeux which is a beautiful old building on it’s own, but we actually stayed in their new, modern accomidations on the other side of the lawn. Both are great experiences and an easy walk to down.
To see:
Bayeux Cathedral is unique and worth a stop
Arbre de la Liberté is next to the cathedral. It’s a beautiful and massive tree on it’s own, but we happened to be there the night of a show (see the photo) where they use projectors from four directions to tell beautiful stories. Check the schedule and if you can make it work then this is something magical to see.
Normandy Tour
If you’re with a group of 4-6 then book a private van to tour the beaches with. We toured with Francois and he is incredibly passionate about the history, he was funny, and and he showed us some local experiences. We did a tour of the American beaches to the west.
Bernard Lebrec Cidre and Calvados brewery we serendipitously (or so our tour guide made us feel) came across this Cidre brewery. It is on beautiful land and the owner as well as his dogs are friendly. It was a nice break from war history to see local life.
